Video Surveillance for Multi-Acre Sites

One of the areas of expertise that Capture Technologies has developed over the past few years is our knowledge and experience with wireless Ethernet bridges. These are a very cost effective and reliable solution for sending video surveillance footage and data over long distances where running wires are not feasible or would be cost prohibitive. The maximum distance to run a video signal over an Ethernet cable is 100 meters or 328 feet. If the video camera is powered through the same cable, line-loss will also have to be taken into consideration. In many situations such as large self-storage facilities or distribution centers, the distances are so great that trenching, running a cable, and adding power boosters mid-span are simply not feasible. A wireless bridge could be the answer.

Multi-acre sites such as Self Storage facilities, distribution hubs, rail yards, farms, and stock yards are examples of the types of places that can have far reaching and highly effective video surveillance where it previously would have been thought to be cost prohibitive. Clear IP cameras can send their video back to the recorder seamlessly and wirelessly with no loss or degradation of the image.

Often Self Storage facilities were built with coax cable running between the main office where the recorder is to each camera located around a multi-acre site. Over time, those coax cables become compromised due to normal degradation over the decades. The cables are very long and it is impossible to pull them out to run a new wire. The solution is to install a wireless Ethernet bridge. This allows the site to use the latest and greatest video technology, such as much clearer images, better wide dynamic range for sun and shadows, infrared lighting at night, and motion detection etc…

In the case of large distribution facilities, the distances are so great that it is impossible to cover the entire site with video surveillance. The use of wireless Ethernet bridges allows the operator to have cameras at the furthest corners of their facility giving them better security and situational awareness of vehicles and merchandise located around the yard.

One of our customers has two self-Storage facilities located across railroad tracks from each other. The wireless Ethernet bridges we installed allows them to manage not only their video surveillance system but also their access control from a quarter mile away across the tracks. This gives them the ability to manage the facility without having to hire an additional person to manage that site.
