Businesses are dumping their desk phones. It’s true, and cellular-news has all of the numbers to prove it. In fact, it’s projected that most companies will all go mobile within the next two years. 82 percent of enterprises are already using mobile communications in the workplace. However, the 2011 BroadSoft survey, performed by the Cohen Research Group, revealed much more on where communication is heading in the future.
The survey itself was taken by individuals who have input with IT purchasing decisions. These numbers are based upon their feedback, as they are the major decision makers for communications IT purchasing. 44 percent of enterprises overall are using mobile phones, while 82 percent are using mobile apps in some part of the communication process.
Apps will continue to gain support with companies and IT professionals as well. Over half the IT professionals said that they are expanding their entire network of communications. This includes, instant messaging, web collaboration and videoconferencing.
Why is this happening? People like what they’re used to. There’s a definite level of comfort when it comes to the cellular phone. With mobile phones, most people find that they prefer them, because of all the options of communication they provide.
It’s not just web browsing and text messaging that they’re after either. Videoconferencing is one of the major features that people are able to use through their smart phones, and they want to be able to use it in the workplace. 72 percent of IT decision makers in the U.S. are looking to place videoconferencing within their entire organizations within the next year. The UK is following our lead with this as well, as they are moving toward mobile videoconferencing by 56 percent.
